In Bloom - Home Trends

Flamboyant rugs, hand-painted wallcoverings, flower-infused furniture: this season designers remind us that though we may be spending more time at home, our living spaces shouldn’t feel confined or colorless. These inspirational objects promise to bring the freshness of spring inside.

Märchen by Nicole Fuller

Luxury wallpaper brand Fromental collaborated with New York based designer Nicole Fuller for ‘Märchen’—German for fairy tale—which was inspired Fuller’s childhood memories, her favorite flower, the peony, and the artist Cy Twombly. The hand-painted design features dripping peonies clustered across the silk wall covering and is available in seven different color combinations.

Grow Floor Lamp by REM Studio

After observing the way houseplants placed in window frames tend to cling to the windows as they grow toward the light, Rotterdam-based REM Atelier took three-dimensional, layered pictures of plants—a zebra plant, fiddle leaf fig, fan palm and elephant ear—and placed them into a light box to create a hyper realistic illusion. “The works question how we take the outside world in,” the studio says, “containing a piece of nature between the walls of our own habitat.”

Reva Twist

by Patrick Jouin

Pedrali began fashioning wrought iron garden furniture in the 1960s and the brand continues to design pieces for the outdoors, although in sleeker, lighter forms. Smooth lines shape the thin, clean frames of this three-seater sofa and lounge armchair by French designer Patrick Jouin, while the use of polyurethane chords with die-cast aluminum ensure the structure is lightweight, easily moved, and stackable when not in use. “The Reva can be moved to be near the swimming pool, to follow the sun, or for storage,” the designer says. “I would not call it an object; it is a design to enable comfortable situations and moments.”

Flora Low Coffee Table

by Marcin Rusak Studio

Polish-born, London-based designer Marcin Rusak has reinvented the art of floral arranging with his cast-resin furniture line. The son and grandson of flower growers, Rusak looks for color and sculptural form when selecting blossoms that he carefully submerges in an expanse of matte black resin. The result has a painterly quality reminiscent of chiaroscuro where light and shadow create contrasts that suggest relief and depth.

Oblique

by Vincent Van Duysen

Van Duysen’s table lamp was inspired by a new technology developed by Flos that combines LEDs and lenses. The lenses only require a thin amount of space to produce a bright and bundled beam of light, which falls ‘obliquely’ from the luminaire head onto the table. The light has a 355-degree rotatable stem and is available in a range of colors to fit any workspace.
